Souk in Doha. Liked the composition of this pic. The way the natural route of the street takes your eye into the picture and the grand mosque in the distance. The contrast in the colour of the buildings shows the different ages and styles. Lighting is good with long shadows and the focal point of the pic is clearly the mineret to the mosque
Newport Spire
This was the original photo taken by Onne Van Der Vaal. Photographer in Newport Rhode Island. Here the sky is much darker which brings out the detail on the spire. The image overall is sharper than mine but, interestingly the perspective and focal points are the same.
Chosen Pic
Another pic from the USA. Liked the verticality of the central axis and the reflections of the clouds on the glazing panels. The sky could have been more interesting but really liked the perspective.
Newport Spire (mine)
Particularly liked this pic from the USA. Visited a local photogaphers studio while on hols and this pic of a local church spire stood out against the blue sky. Sadly the sky was not so interesting when i took this shot but nevertheless I think the end result is good. The focal point is the spire itself. Particularly liked the building texture (timber) and the perspective is good. What would have impoved the shot would have been to centralise the corner of the building to equalise the perspective.
Dome
Back at College - 7th October 2010. Resumed the research of Anthony Weller. Really liked this pic. the composition is good and the eye is lead to the dome focal point by the use of the railings. The lighting is particularly interesting as it compliments the colour of the lighting bollard. the rule of thirds is abandoned as the main focal point is central.

7512-92 Level 2 Certificate in Specialist Photography and presentation.
I have opted to complete this course and undertake units 211 and 208
As far as 208 is concerned I have decided to follow the specialism of "Architectural Photography". Having spent the last 30 years in the construction industry, both at home and abroad, I have always had an interest in buildings. I do not not really wish to restrict my activity to any particular age, style or type but rather leave the subject to buildings of all configurations.

Initial homework assignment 23rd Sept 2009
Initial assignment to take a series of 5 pics using the M mode on the camera and using different settings and ISo`s. The pics were taken 3rd October, indoors as the weather was very inclemant
The first shot was taken with an ISO setting of 1600 as the indoor light was very low. The relatively high shutter speed allowed the moving plant outside to be frozen. The pic was taken at f/16 and 1.3 sec shutter.
The second pic was taken with a vertical camera at ISO 800. The light was slightly better but still not brilliant. The resulting settings were f5.6 to get the sharp focus and shutter 1/5th sec.
The next pic has been slightly spoilt by cropping to square. The detail of the plant on the terrace has been lost. However the basic point of the pic is still there. It was taken into a mirror with my daughters hands in front. The point was to focus the garden and "soften" the hands. The f 9.0 setting allowed the garden to be in focus and the shutter is at 1/40. The ISO is 800 again.
I liked the setting for this pic. In an alcove with a down light. The light was good hence the ISO setting of 100. Again kept the F at 9 to keep the depth of field good. The resulting shutter was at 1.6
The final image again was taken at ISO 1600 as the area in the house was not well lit. Could have changed the ISO but would have slowed the shutter and made hand held impossible. (With a moving Model !!) Taken at f 4.0 and 1/20 th sec shutter to shorten the field. Image taken with the aid of a mirror.
Notes
- Images saved as Jpeg rather than RAW - wrong - difficult to manipulate
- Does RAW setting give the 300 dpi ??
- Loss of qualtiy with ISO 1600. Better to use lower and accept shutter speed and use tripod.
- Watch composition - when need to crop square. !!
